“The Low Volume Water vs Medium Volume Water, Coil Cleaning Myth”
A commonly touted myth is that using medium volume (7.0 LPM) water cleaning risks damaging the coil fins whereas using low volume (1.7 LPM) is safer and better for your Air Con. Unfortunately low volume washing does not push mould, dirt and grime all the way through to the rear and out of the coil, thus rendering it less efficient than before a clean as the back of the coil can become blocked. Medium volume hot water forces the muck all the way through and will not damage the coil. Using a stiff brush on the front of a coil on the other hand can do serious damage to the front of the coil by squashing the fins, hence rendering it less efficient.
