A Need for speed!!

An air conditioning specialist and original co-director of HydroKleen operated his own air conditioning company in Darwin for 25 years. He saw a need for speeding up the process of cleaning split system air conditioners, especially given that nearly every household has 1 or more air conditioners of some sort, whether for cold and/or hot air. There was no industry standard for the cleaning of air conditioners. The first prototype proved that he could clean up to 12 units a day compared to 2 or 3 using the traditional ‘strip and clean’ method. The strip and clean method was not time efficient, nor was it cost effective.

A Partnership was Formed

He invited John Sanders to a clean while he was in Darwin on a business trip in 2007. John had previously lived in Darwin and had known him for some 30 years. John had spent the previous nine years in the franchising industry in Sydney and held the position of National Franchise Manager for a leading international franchise group. The owner of this franchise group has been a great mentor in teaching the trials and tribulations of successful franchising. After witnessing the clean demonstration, the enormous time saved and the reduced cost, John’s mind was ticking. What amazed John was that the air conditioning industry nationally hadn’t worked it out. The cleaning of domestic type air conditioner units was a job that most companies seemed to not want to do or didn’t really have a system that could eciently do it! From a franchising point of view, John looked at how this would succeed nationally if branded and systemized correctly.

This is what they found:

The above points were more than enough to suggest to John and his partner that they should pilot a franchise in Darwin and carefully monitor the results.
